Calvert Federal Custody Release Paths
Federal immigration custody, federal criminal custody, BOP imprisonment, and Calvert County detention are distinct. ICE uses administrative immigration authority. The U.S. Marshals Service manages many federal pretrial detainees and may place them in contract facilities. BOP ordinarily becomes the central public locator after a federal sentence and intake. CCDC remains the source for its own local gate or transfer entry.
A person can physically leave CCDC yet remain confined. A federal warrant or detainer may cause transfer to the Marshals Service, ICE, or another receiving authority. The Calvert booking can close while federal custody begins. That event must be described as a transfer, not a release into the community. No official evidence reviewed for this project shows a current Calvert County or CCDC contract to operate an ICE detention facility.
| Record or event | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| CCDC transfer entry | The person left local Calvert custody for the named authority. | That the person entered the community. |
| ICE ODLS match | ICE reports a qualifying person in searchable immigration detention. | The full immigration case or every past movement. |
| Federal detention order | A federal court ordered detention or set release terms. | The exact physical location at every moment. |
| BOP released result | The matched person left BOP custody on the reported date. | That ICE, state, local, or supervision obligations do not apply. |
| Blank federal locator search | The queried system returned no matching searchable record. | Community release or a closed case. |
The correct conclusion is narrow and source-specific. State who reported the event, which identifier matched, the event date, and when the record was checked.
Confirm Calvert Federal Custody
Start with the legal name, spelling variants, date information if known, and the strongest official identifier available. An ICE A-number, federal criminal case number, BOP register number, or Calvert booking number can separate people who share a name. Then follow the custody chain rather than searching one agency repeatedly.
- Ask CCDC whether it still holds the person. If not, request the existing release or transfer entry and identify the receiving authority when disclosable.
- If immigration custody is indicated, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator with the A-number and country of birth or exact biographical information.
- If a federal criminal warrant or case is indicated, inspect the federal court docket for detention, release, bond, judgment, and later custody-related orders.
- Use the BOP locator when the person served or may be serving a federal prison sentence. A Marshals detainee awaiting trial may not yet have a BOP prison record.
- Contact the authority that owns the unresolved fact. ICE owns its detention report, the Marshals Service owns its pretrial movement, BOP owns BOP custody, and the court owns its signed orders.
- Request the dated record when a locator result, docket entry, and local transfer entry do not answer the same question.
The Calvert County released inmate search provides the broader local and state sequence when the federal connection is not yet established.
Note: Keep the local exit record and federal identifier together because the two systems may report different stages of one transfer.
No Calvert County ICE Facility
The reviewed official facility sources do not identify an ICE detention center in Calvert County. They also do not establish a current Calvert County or CCDC agreement to hold people for ICE as a contract detention facility. This is a bounded finding from the sources reviewed, not a claim that federal immigration authorities can never become involved in a Calvert case.
A local release entry can still name a federal receiving authority. ICE may act on an immigration detainer or other federal process after a person completes or otherwise leaves local custody. That movement can take the person to a facility outside Calvert County. Federal classification and placement decisions should not be guessed from distance, and no “nearest” facility should be presented as the place serving Calvert cases.
The CCDC record is the right source for who assumed custody at the local exit. The receiving authority then owns the next event. If the CCDC entry says only “federal authority,” use the federal court case, identifier, and agency contact to distinguish Marshals criminal custody from ICE administrative detention.
Note: Absence of a local ICE facility does not show where a transferred person was taken or whether federal custody later ended.
ICE ODLS Release Search Limits
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, often shortened to ODLS, is mainly a current-detention search. Use the nine-digit A-number with country of birth when known. Add leading zeroes where required. The alternate route uses exact biographical details. Identity, spelling, age, recent movement, and searchable-population limits all affect the result.
A blank ODLS search is ambiguous. It can mean community release, removal from the United States, transfer, recent intake or movement, an entry error, custody by another agency, or exclusion from the searchable group. The system does not cover children under eighteen. Retry with both authorized search paths and compare the facts before seeking direct help.
- A-number
- The immigration identifier used with country of birth for a stronger match.
- Biographical search
- An alternate name-based route that requires careful spelling and identity comparison.
- Administrative detention
- Immigration custody under federal administrative authority, distinct from a federal criminal sentence.
- Removal
- An immigration outcome that is not the same as release into a Calvert County community.
- Check-in
- A continuing ICE reporting obligation that may follow release from detention.
When ODLS cannot resolve the case, the research identifies the ICE Detention and Reporting Information Line at 1-888-351-4024. Its published hours are Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. The responsible Enforcement and Removal Operations field office or actual detention facility may also be the proper source.
ICE's official check-in information shows why “released from detention” does not mean that the immigration matter is closed. Release paperwork can require continued reporting. Preserve that distinction in any person-level statement.
U.S. Marshals Pretrial Custody
The U.S. Marshals Service manages many people detained while a federal criminal case is pending. It can use contract or local facilities outside Calvert County. The Marshals prisoner-information page does not provide a general public detainee locator comparable to BOP's public tool. A person can therefore be in federal pretrial custody even when no BOP institution appears.
The federal criminal docket is the primary public path for detention and release orders. Review the case number, identity, detention hearing, bond or release conditions, plea, judgment, and later entries. The court owns the signed order. The Marshals Service owns operational custody and movement. Counsel or the responsible federal district clerk may clarify the case route when public records are incomplete.
A federal judge's release order is legal authority, but it may not be the exact physical exit time. Processing, a receiving authority, or another valid hold can affect the operational event. Conversely, a CCDC sheet may show the hour the person left Barstow without supplying the federal court's legal basis. Those two records can both be accurate because they measure different stages.
After sentencing, the Marshals Service may deliver a person to BOP. Search the BOP Inmate Locator by federal number or name after intake. A later BOP result may show an institution, a projected date, or a historic released status. That BOP result should not be retroactively described as a complete Marshals pretrial record.
Federal Release Records Channels
No single Calvert County office owns all federal custody records. Route the request by the event sought. Ask CCDC for its existing local transfer or release sheet. Ask the federal court for its filed detention, release, bond, judgment, or supervision order. Ask BOP for its custody or release record. Ask ICE for its detention event. A federal records request may be necessary when the public locator or docket omits the fact.
| Question | Best source | Useful identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Who took custody from CCDC? | CCDC release or transfer entry | Calvert booking number |
| Did a federal judge order release? | Federal criminal docket and clerk | Federal case number |
| Is ICE reporting present detention? | ICE ODLS and responsible ERO office | A-number |
| Was the person released from BOP? | BOP locator and BOP record | BOP register number |
| Where was a pretrial detainee moved? | Marshals Service and federal case source | Federal case and identity details |
A focused request names the person, identifier, approximate date range, agency, and exact existing record. Ask for the release or transfer date, authority, receiving agency or destination category if disclosable, and relevant custody-status entry. Broad requests for an entire life history are less likely to produce a clear answer and can implicate protected information.
Federal custody records and Maryland records follow different access systems. Do not send an ICE, Marshals, or BOP request to the Calvert PIA custodian except for the local CCDC record that the county actually holds. Likewise, a federal court order should be requested from the court rather than treated as an executive-agency record.
Note: Route each request to the agency that owns the event, and ask Calvert County only for the CCDC-held portion.
Resolve Calvert Federal Release Conflicts
Conflicts are resolved by ownership and timing. CCDC owns its local exit entry. ICE owns ICE-reported detention. The Marshals Service owns its movement of federal pretrial detainees. BOP owns BOP custody and its released result. The federal court owns signed detention and release orders. One source should not be asked to correct another agency's record.
Prefer an actual dated record over an undated snippet. Save the event date and query date. If a federal judge ordered release in the morning and CCDC recorded departure later, the order and gate entry describe legal authority and physical movement. If CCDC shows transfer to ICE while ODLS is blank, do not discard the transfer entry. Retry the locator, confirm the identifier, then contact ICE because ODLS has timing and coverage limits.
A BOP “Released” result confirms exit from BOP custody for the matched person. It does not cancel an ICE detainer, a state case, a local warrant, or federal supervised release. Similarly, an ICE blank result does not prove that the person returned to Calvert County. Each conclusion must stop at the boundary of the source.
Never merge close names or conflicting birth information by guesswork. Use an A-number, booking number, federal case number, or BOP register number. If identity remains uncertain, state that the result could not be matched. The strongest final wording names the agency and event, such as “CCDC records a transfer to federal custody” or “BOP reports release from BOP custody on the stated date.”
